I spent most of my evening with this view. I have come to the conclusion that “music people” — and really, maybe that’s everyone — or maybe everyone has something; I really hope they do! — anyway, “music people” catch a moment of bliss here and there. The best feeling in the world. The closest we have to what heaven must be like. And then we spend the rest of our lives chasing it over and over again. The tedious moments and the boring moments and the stressful moments and the moments of tension and conflict…I barely notice all those emotions, or at least I barely remember them when a rehearsal is over. I am riding a high from the moments of bliss, few and far between though they may be, they are more powerful than anything.
But of course… “Talking about music is like dancing about architecture.” (Elvis Costello)
